These have been called Revolutions. Charles Gross discusses several of these “revolutions” from the Pre-Socratic philosophers (6th Century, B.C.E.) to the discovery of adult neurogenesis at the end of the 20th century. What is death? Is it an altogether bad thing? If we could forever avoid death, should we choose to do so, to live immortally? Is suicide morally justifiable? How does our understanding of our existence, what we are, affect our conception of death? Furthermore, how do our answers to these questions direct us in facing (or turning away from) our own death and the death of others?
