Er Hu Class (二胡课)Time: 4:30 PM - 5:30 PM CST Venue:Room 808 Fascinated with Chinese art work and performance? Want to create you own master piece? Here we invite you to get a taste of Chinese cultural arts! Office of Student Life is now offering five Chinese cultural classes for 2014 Fall semester, including: Er Hu (二胡), Gu Zheng(古筝), Chinese Brush Painting (中国画), Calligraphy(书法), Bamboo Flute(竹笛). Besides the special introduction course for Gu Zheng and Chinese Bamboo Flute on October 11, there will be 7 consecutive sessions for each class,starting from the week of October 13 to the week of December 1. Tea Talk With the Dean of Arts and SciencesTime: 4:30 PM - 5:30 PM CST Venue: Room 1150 The purpose of a Tea Talk is to provide rare person-to-person opportunities for students to connect with members of administration in a more personal, causal, and intimate setting. At Tea Talks, students can freely discuss any concerns or ask any questions and receive a direct response. Tea Talks are also an excellent opportunity to get to know the leadership of NYU Shanghai and learn about the direction of our school. Talk by Duncan Clark, founder of BDA (internet/social media)Time: 5:30 PM - 6:30 PM CST Venue: Room 100 A little more than two decades ago China had only a few million telephones. Duncan Clark, Chairman and Founder of BDA China will discuss how the internet, social media and digital technology has brought massive and rapid transformation to China and will explore possible future developments. BDA is the leading consultancy in the fields of telecommunications, digital technology, e-commerce and retail in China and Duncan was an early advisors to Jack Ma of Alibaba, and the founders of Netease and Sina. He is an angel investor in a number of China-originated technology ventures. He was involved in establishing the ‘China 2.0’ research initiative at Stanford where he was a visiting scholar in 2010 and 2011. Duncan was recently awarded the Order of the British Empire for services to British commercial interests.

In this workshop, you would learn basics of graphic design and paper folding, and make a unique little zine or book that features your own poetry or photography work. You will need to prepare: - a laptop if you wish to do it digitally - Adobe InDesign and Photoshop installed on your laptop - scissors and glue - materials you wish to put in your book (your own poems, short fiction, photos, drawings)

Suggested topics include trying out different career paths, job-hunting, application processes, internships, graduate school as a means to professional advancement, working part-time, life-after-university, and so on. While this seminar will have time at the end for open Q&A, make sure you submit your questions beforehand via THIS FORM for a better chance that they will be answered by the GAFs. Barcamp 2014Time: 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM CST Venue: NYU Shanghai Building - Registration at the front door If you are interested in technology, startups, design, or just want to learn something new, you can't miss this event! BarCamp is a fun, user-generated "un-conference" that started in Silicon Valley as a response to formal, exclusive, and boring tech conferences. BarCamp is a full-day event with multiple sessions, workshops, and presentations on topics like technology, design, entrepreneurship, and social innovation. It is an open and sharing environment -- everyone can attend, and everyone can participate. As always, Barcamp is free, and everyone is welcome to come! You don't have to stay for the whole day, come for as little or long as you'd like!
