The new academic year brings a change of leadership at On Magnolia Square, the student-written online publication at NYU Shanghai, and they are calling for volunteer writers and support staff.

The new president is Ari Harris and the new editor-in-chief is Nithila Krishnakumar.

Nithila is a Biology major on the pre-med track at NYU Shanghai, minoring in Public Policy and Social Science, interests that inspire many of her opinion pieces. Since joining OMS her freshman year, she has enjoyed writing about current politics and issues she is passionate about, including “How Future Generations Carry Past Violence” and her three-part series, “God in Government,” analyzing the intersection of religion and politics in India and the United States. Outside of OMS, she spends her time reading historical fiction, volunteering, and traveling.

Ari has been an Arts & Culture writer since his first year at NYU Shanghai, and has enjoyed writing on a variety of topics, spanning his time spent in Shanghai and abroad. Highlights include on the ground journalism in Washington D.C., covering the 2025 Inauguration of Donald Trump, and documenting the ‘Refuse Fascism’ movement during a day-long demonstration. In Shanghai he has enjoyed comparative writing, addressing U.S.-China Relations, along with documenting key events on campus. He is majoring in International Relations and minoring in Chinese.

Ari and Nithila take over from the outgoing president Eva Weisenfeld and editor-in-chief Susan Wang, both Class of 2026.

In welcoming the new team to the helm of OMS, Journalism professor David Maguire thanked Eva and Susan for such strong dedication to the publication during their two years in charge.

He was confident the standards they set built a strong platform for the new team under Nithila and Ari.

Nithila and Ari will be tabling at the Involvement Fair this Thursday, September 10, from 4–6 PM. “We are actively looking for members across all committees, including editors and members of our media and marketing teams,” they shared.
