Chinese New Year Staycation
As the Lunar New Year approaches, we’re scrambling to buy plane tickets home or preparing to jet off to warmer weather. But if you’re staying put in Shanghai, don’t think this means that you’ll have any less of a good time. Despite venue closures for the holiday, the city still has an endless amount of activities in store for you. Get out of Pudong (Or at least Motel 268) Staying in Shanghai doesn’t necessarily mean holing up Motel 268 the whole time. Split a hotel room with friends, or for a homier feel, get an Airbnb in the French Concession. Enjoy the luxury of room service (or just a guaranteed hot shower). Make Day Trips Escape the hustle and bustle of big city life and take a train to Suzhou or Hangzhou. Go on an adventure on one of China’s speed trains and find yourself in a new city in just 20 or 40 minutes. When you’re there, you can bike around West Lake in Hangzhou or gawk at Suzhou’s countless pagodas. Get Some Culture Spend your day at a museum by gazing at galleries and becoming an art buff. (But be sure to check museum hours beforehand). Be a Tourist Although we’re all residents of the city, you may still be missing out on some experiences that are quintessentially “Shanghai”. Check out the Shanghai World Financial Center Observation Deck, haggle for a pair of Beats headphones at the Nanjing Xi Lu Fake Market, or take advantage of the many photo-ops at the Shanghai Chedun Film Park.
