NYU Shanghai Selects Another New Dorm

On April 27th, Residential Life sent an email to announce that not only would the university discontinue using BASE Residences as its secondary dormitory, but that it has also selected a new property to use as a residence until the new campus opens. Lang Studios, located at the 688 Gushan Road, is conveniently situated halfway in between the academic building and the Jin Qiao residence. The property is half hotel, half apartments. Within the residence, NYU Shanghai will occupy floors four through eight for the 2018-19 school year before expanding into floors nine and ten as well in the coming years. The residence will hold up to 300 students in singles, standard doubles, large doubles, and triples. Every room features a kitchenette, flat screen TV, en suite bathroom, and washing machine. There will be communal dryers.Although the negotiations were just finalized, the residential life staff already have some adjustments in mind to convert the floors into a proper dormitory. The fourth floor will serve as a lobby area and resource center. The floor has a large common room, complete with multiple couches and a pool table, that will serve as a mini resource center and mail room. Additionally, there will be turnstiles installed in the hallway directly outside of the elevators on every NYU floor that requires an NYU ID to swipe in. The overnight guest policy will be the same as the Jin Qiao dormitory. The shuttle bus arrangement is still being sorted out, however residential life has ensured that there will be a shuttle bus to and from campus. NYU Shanghai is looking forward to a new dormitory experience for students in the next few coming years. A chart detailing the features of all available student housing options and prices per semester follows below. *Furniture and layout of the apartments is subject to change. This article was written by Isabel Adler.
