Duke Kunshan Brings Its Game to NYUSH
On Apr. 18, the NYU Shanghai Women’s Volleyball Team and the Men’s Basketball Team will be introduced to a new competitor: Duke Kunshan University. After the Yale-NUS game last semester, this will be the NYU Shanghai Men’s Basketball Team’s second (and the Volleyball Team’s first) competition against a joint venture University. The volleyball game will start at 4pm and will be followed by the basketball game at 6. For those who RSVP on Orgsync, buses will be provided from both Motel 268 and the Academic Building. However, for those who want to arrive early, from 2 to 3pm there will be a Meet and Greet with 80 current Duke Kunshan University students. As Duke Kunshan operates its own clubs and activities, the event will be an opportunity to connect with these clubs, and hear about their experiences at another joint venture university in China. Between games, there will also be dances from both schools, with NYU Shanghai’s performance organized and choreographed by the Xiao Long Shakers dance club. There will also be a quick dodgeball game, where participants will be chosen at random. In similar fashion to NYU Shanghai, Duke Kunshan University is a joint venture university between the US and China. With a campus in Kunshan (approximately an hour away), the school currently acts a permanent graduate school, granting three Master degrees for students. At present, the school grants two degrees in Health Science and one Master of Management Studies. In addition, undergraduates can apply to undertake a “Global Learning Semester”, where students can study Chinese or English, Global Health, Humanities, Social Science, Physical and Natural Sciences, Business and Economics, or Environmental Studies.
