CDC Hosts Inaugural Summer Internship Fair

On Mar. 27, students, faculty, and representatives of businesses within the local community of NYU Shanghai all gathered together to attend this semester’s Summer Internship Fair hosted by the Career Development Center (CDC). This was the first fair that was opened up to not only sophomores and study-away students, but also, freshmen looking to procure exciting summer and fall semester internships. The reputable organizations that were represented ranged from business and finance, marketing, technology, media and arts, non-profit, and education, amongst many other categories. Students were allowed to walk around the campus’ colloquium on the 15th floor to explore the various internship opportunities available and share their resumes with employers. According to Emmy, a representative of Absolute Internship, they were looking for interns who possess ample social skills that allow them to be approachable and professional when it comes to working with various companies. She knew that NYU Shanghai was a perfect place to look for possible interns who embody these specific traits due to the elite reputation the university possesses, especially in regards to the Business and Finance department. The atmosphere of the room was quite heartening as students shuffled back and forth excitedly chatting up their peers about an interesting conversation they just had with a potential employer. Freshmen were especially encouraged to participate in the event as it is perhaps the best way to prepare oneself for the professional world that awaits after graduation. Roxanne Roman, a member of the Class of 2017, stated that this year’s function was a huge success in terms of attendance. Interested in developing professional skills in public service by pursuing an internship in NGOS and legal organizations, she appreciates the connections that are made available to the NYUSH student body within the greater Shanghai area and the ability to practice discussing with professionals and create networking connections.
