Who Let the Dogs Out? Review of Dog House

Move over Bikini, there’s a new spot for gourmet hot dogs in town. While it is technically a hole in the wall, Dog Town is located in the basement of Xintiandi’s upscale Soho Fuxing Plaza. Hot dogs are topped with ingredients spanning from Japan to Beijing to New York. Flavor combinations like the Reuben or Peking dog are unconventional, but prove to be more interesting than plain old sauerkraut and ketchup. The Korean is topped with bulgogi and kimchi, each bite packed with tender, flavorful beef.

Ingredients are fresh, and you can tell the hot dogs are made with love. Each combination had a lot of thought put into it, and their flawless execution proves it. Prices range from 35-45RMB per dog, so there’s no reason not to try more than one. Plus, there’s thirteen different kinds to choose from. Besides hot dogs, they also serve waffle fries (in dog bowls!) and beers imported from America. You have the option to get waffle fries topped with chili, but trust me, you shouldn’t have them any other way. Thankfully, they provide plastic gloves to help with the messy meal (and also to stop me from digging my whole face into a dog bowl full of waffle fries). All in all, it’s an ideal spot for cheap casual dining while still maintaining high quality and taste.
